I used this tool exclusively on the detached garage, and it munched through James Hardie siding effortlessly. It is not as clean a cut as you get from a saw blade, and you can see the damage on the edges. I used the Hitachi jigsaw blades exclusively on the house, and got much crisper cuts. Dust was somewhat more bothersome with jigsaw, but I muddled through without a mask.
A few tips: I think some one else mentioned both of these but it's good advice:*Make your cuts with the back of the board facing up for a cleaner cut. If you're a contractor or have a big job, not so much.
I probably would have given it 5 stars. It cuts great, it's fast, no dust, no need for a respirator and fairly inexpensive. But here is the bummer part. I have to say that when I first got this tool I was very please.
I am giving it 3 stars for lack of durability. If you are doing a small job it's a great tool for the money. I have cut less than 80 boards and the blade broke inside the housing and I have to spend $40 to get a replacement.
Kind of bummed about that but you do get what you pay for. You're better off forking out the dough for a professional grade shear.
*You loose about 1/4 "on the cut so make sure you are cutting on the right side of your line or you will come up short.
Good product, just didn't get used alot during our siding install. If a person is erally serious about cutting down the dust, this works well, but still not as fast as a dust creating saw.
Great product, very fast at cutting Hardie Plank. Be careful with the fingers, I got my index finger caught in the cutter.
A must have tool when cutting Hardi Backer/Cement board products. NO DUST, LITTLE MESS, SAFE AND QUICK.
